Haven't they told you about me? - Guest Blogger

Haven't they told you about me?

I'm not sure if my "encounter" qualifies as supernatural or not, but my Uncle Johnny visited me when I was in my early teens, about fifteen years after his death in an accident. My family didn't talk about him because their loss made them too sad, even after all that time.

We lived about three hours from Grandma and Grandpa's house, so I didn't see them frequently. But one night, amid all the turbulent "crap" we teenagers get to go through, I had a dream of being alone in their house. I was in their cozy kitchen and a man I'd never met came in. I wasn't afraid of this stranger, and I served us a couple pieces of Grandma's amazing pumpkin pie (with whipped cream on top, of course!). He asked if I knew him. I said no. He introduced himself as John and asked, "Haven't they told you about me?" Well...no. I didn't know who this person was. So he smiled this wonderfully kind smile at me, as if my ignorance was okay, and we sat at the kitchen table talking for the remainder of my dream.

This would be forgettable if not for my next visit to Grandma and Grandpa's house, where I found myself seated at her table, and the dream returned to me quite vividly. I described the scene, right down to the flannel shirt "John" had been wearing, because I still had no idea that he was any relation to me - he was just a nice fellow and I was telling about serving Grandma's fabulous pumpkin pie to a stranger in her house. I upset my grandmother greatly, and she went to dig out a picture of my Uncle Johnny wearing the clothes the man in my dream had been wearing. I'm convinced to this day that he visited me in my dream because he just wanted to say "hello" to his niece. I consider myself blessed that he did.
